Bernice of Rwamtamu Coffee in Rwanda has sent through an update regarding the youth group that Rwamatamu have bought land for and are training to farm coffee.
“The youth cooperative is doing well. They are more consistent in their work and have found a good rhythm. I visited them last week and brought school bags. Luke and I also covered their health insurance, which costs around $3 per person. There are 19 members, including about 7 or 8 young mothers. Right now, their biggest challenge is erosion. They urgently need help to hire people who can install infiltration systems to reduce runoff and improve the soil.”
We will be sending over the money that has been raised so far via our Producer-Led Projects initiative to assist with this issue.
