Our first order with Rwamatamu was way back in 2022, when Dave (back in his Rounton Coffee days) found out that somebody working in the Rounton cafe had grown up on a coffee farm.
That somebody was Marie Bernice, and not only did she grow up surrounded by coffee in Rwanda, her parents also own and manage a washing station. Whilst studying in the UK, Bernice was also looking to learn more about the coffee industry on this side of the supply chain - and see if she could get anyone interested in buying and importing her family's coffee.
It was such a unique situation that we couldn't help but be intrigued, and once we met Bernice and spoke to her family we soon agreed upon our first purchase of Rwamatamu Coffee.
It's hard to believe all that was nearly five years ago. Rwamatamu have grown hugely in size, scope, and quality during that time, all thanks to a lot of intense work on their part. It's an honour to have progressed alongside them in that time, to the point where we're able to support their growth by purchasing increased amount of their coffee each year.
To give you a better idea of how Rwamatamu have gotten to this point, and to emphasise the work that the team has put into their own development, we've put together something of a timeline - marking the milestones we've witnessed since first beginning our partnership with Rwamatamu.
