Burundi coffee producer Migoti have been working to install a clean water system in the community of Kinama as part of our Producer-Led Projects scheme.
Thanks to the contributions of roasters, Migoti have been making good progress on constructing the reservoir and the fittings that will be used to dispense water. Soon the team will be ready to install the ram pump that will be key in transporting water uphill for dispersal.
One of the bigger obstacles that Migoti face in this project is transportation. Burundi has been facing major fuel shortages for the last two years, affecting transportation across the country.
Pontien Ntunzwenimana, co-founder of Migoti and lead engineer on this project has told us that it has been extremely difficult to transport the necessary equipment and materials to the site in Kinama, and recently have had to use local labour to manually transport things like dry cement and gravel.
