Our Head of Coffee Dave is taking a couple of our roasting partners to visit Ethiopia and meet Moata Raya, founder of coffee exporter Mecota Trading, who will be taking the group to visit the various farmers that he works with.
Moata has taken the group to visit Bekele Kechara, from who Omwani bought 5 sacks of coffee from in 2024.
Bekele has over 2 hectares of land which he oversees with his family. Recently he has acquired a disc pulper, which he will be using to honey process his coffees as well as improve his anaerobics.
As one of Mecota Trading’s exclusive partners, Bekele will only sell his coffee through Moata, meaning that we have a much better chance of repurchasing from him than Bekele Belacho, who has already sold most of his coffees from this season to outside organisations.
Dave tells us that he is excited to try these coffees as, of all the farmers that Moata knows, Bekele has done the longest anaerobic fermentation: a 96 hour fermentation in cherry, which is then pulped and dried as honey.
