Moata Raya of Mecota Trading , the exporter for our incoming shipment of Ethiopia coffee, has been sending through some profiles of the farmers that have grown and processed these coffees.
Negash Abarago’s farm is located in the village of Oma Funtule, of the Gomma district in Jimma. At 2100 m.a.s.l and under a canopy of indigenous shade trees like Albizia and Acacia, Negash tends to his farm, which he inherited from his parents, who inherited it from their parents.
In 2021 Negash was able to begin processing washed coffees after obtaining an Agard disc pulper. After harvesting cherries, he now pulps them with the device, then ferments them for 24 hours before spreading them out to dry on raised beds for 12 days.
The name Nega- means ‘peace’ in the Oromo language.
