Breakfast in Bensa with Bekele Yutute

Breakfast in Bensa with Bekele Yutute

🔎

Our Head of Coffee Dave is taking a couple of our roasting partners to visit Ethiopia and meet Moata Raya, founder of coffee exporter Mecota Trading, who will be taking the group to visit the various farmers that he works with.

For the last couple of days the group have been having breakfast and coffee at a cafe in Bensa called Tiggiji Coffee, where farmers have been coming to meet them, talk, and take them to their farms.

On Tuesday they were joined by Bekele Yutute, another farmer who Omwani bought coffee from in 2024. Bekele has a site in Dambi, which is a little too far out for the group to visit, but Bekele expressed interest in selling his coffees again, and the group picked up samples of them from the central warehouse.

The set up for traditional Ethiopian coffee, include the fire to heat it, and the herbs to be placed inside your cup.

Breakfast was avocado, scrambled eggs, and ‘some kind of fried cabbagey thing that we seem to get on quite a lot of plates’, as Dave describes it.
