Late last year, a truck full of Agri Evolve’s coffee was diverted from its route to the Inland Container Depot, after which it failed to reach the export site.
Johnny Rowland, Agri Evolve’s founder, reported the case, and just yesterday (January 16th, 2025) the coffee was found stored in a garage in Sanga Matugga. Around 20% of the original volume is missing, but the sacks that were found have been returned to Agri Evolve.
When we spoke to Johnny about the matter, he said “It’s a challenge exporters/producers face especially when prices are so high, and moving coffee 1000s [of] km across rural Africa is not easy!”
This is an unfortunate risk many producers and exporters in Africa face when exporting their coffee. As a more established producer, Agri Evolve have been able to manage the absence of this coffee, however a smaller company could easily be devastated by the loss of so much product.
