How many children do you have?
I have 7 children.
How is living like in this area?
We live badly.
When did you start farming coffee?
I don’t remember the time. From when I was 50 years old.
Why did you start farming coffee?
We saw the importance of the coffee.
How big is you land?
It is very big, like 2 hectares.
How many coffee trees do you have?
We have 300 coffee trees.
Which things in life bring you joy?
What makes us happy is coffee.
What do you like about coffee farming?
What we like in planting coffee is that it brings development for the person. Except the coffee tree, no other plant brings us money.
What are some of the main challenges you have in coffee farming?
The main problems we have is to put the grasses on the land. Grasses are needed to protect the land against the sun.
What are some things in life that changed since you started coffee farming?
Since we started to cultivate coffee, we were able to get things that are important for us, because it helps us very much.
What are your hopes/dreams for the future?
Our dreams are to develop the coffee tree and to put much grasses on the land. So that the tree improves and that in the future we are able to get more money out of it.
What are the grasses referred to by coffee farmers?
During dry season, farmers cut and dry long grasses, which they then put around their trees for the purpose of mulching (covering land to reduce weeds and help soil retain moisture).
